Just Peace Apologetics

Dear friends,                                                     (first posted in September A.D. 2011)

For 1,500 years many Christians have followed an unjust, unbiblical Just War Theory (JWT).  Some say that JWT started with the Greeks, or Cicero, or St. Augustine of Hippo.  We will look at all that, but that is not our mission.

Just Peace (JP) is our means and ends.  It is the station we have a ticket for, but it is also the rails we ride to get there.  I will defend and explain JP with Scriptures, Tradition, and Reason.  I will try to do it simply and clearly.  If I ever sound angry in my words please forgive me.  I may be passionate and blunt, but remember when we are not face to face you may be reading a different emotion into my words than I was expressing.

Apologetics is the defense and explanations of an area of study.  In this case it is the Love, Peace, and Nonviolence of Christianity.  I will not claim to know in great depth other religious and cultural views of war and peace.  I will share some of what I have learned and been taught by other traditions, though.

With each piece I will try to include a book that is appropriate for JP.  I will share many scriptures and quotes.  I will support my opinions so that you can see if we have a similar vision of peace.

I hope you will take this invitation and join me on this journey.

In Christ's love,

Fr. Robert Pax
